Shelby & Riley’s Story
Megan Paxton, Vice President of Clinical Effectiveness
Shelby came to the Home in January 2023 for help parenting her daughter, Riley. Riley is a bright and adventurous 6 year old, but the family was struggling with Riley’s frequent anger outbursts and daily meltdowns. Riley was not listening to her mother and showing aggression towards her sister and herself. While her daughter was struggling both at home and at school, Shelby struggled with consistent parenting.
When Shelby came to the Home, she and Riley started working with Megan Summers, an advanced practicum intern and a doctoral student from Spalding University. Megan began working with the family and it was clear that both Shelby and Riley were committed to improving their relationship. Shelby was dedicated to being the best mother she could be and showed up to every appointment eager to learn and willing to try new techniques.
After 5 months working with Megan Summers,, Shelby saw improvements in her daughter at home and in school. Riley was listening well and using new skills to manage her emotions which lead to her being awarded student of the week! Since completing their program, Shelby and Riley have both reported how much happier they are and we are so proud of the hard work they put in!
