Residents share their Arts for Kosair Kids® experience!

During the 2018-2019 school year, Arts for Kosair Kids®, in partnership with Fund for the Arts, has provided our residents classes taught by Commonwealth Theatre Center and Louisville Youth Choir. Through these classes, our residents are grasping the importance of art for self-expression and community building.

In theatre class, students are learning the fundamentals of teamwork and performance. From the classroom, you often hear chants and roaring laughter followed by serene meditative music. One student, Emma*, shared, “I like the games, but my favorite part of class is mindfulness. I’m glad they helped me learn that I’m more peaceful when I’m aware of my feelings.” Mindfulness is not only important when they act in a skit or small play, but is also applicable to their everyday life.

In choir class, students are learning the elements of music and voice. Upon entering the classroom, their high energy is transformed into soothing harmonies. One student, Alex*, shared, “I appreciate that I get to play piano and sing without being judged. I really enjoy it and I’m glad I have someone to share it with.” Nothing makes us happier than seeing our residents proudly engaging in their interests!

Arts for Kosair Kids® in partnership with Fund for the Arts provides art experiences that our teenage girls and boys greatly benefit from. The skills they learn in the classroom today will be useful for years to come. We’re so thankful our residents have been given the opportunity to expand on their talents and we can’t wait to see how they use them!
