Meet the Open Arms team: Dr. Kristen Brents
Emmory Shipley, Communications Coordinator
Dr. Kristen Brents, PT, DPT, CPMT, is a Physical Therapist in our Open Arms Children’s Health clinic. She was first intrigued by Open Arms because of the diversity of patients served, as well as the holistic services provided. She joined the team because of her passion of working with children with special needs and their families.
To Dr. Brents, the most enjoyable part of her job is seeing patients use the Universal Exercise Unit and the pool at our Aquatic Therapy Center. Both activities are fun for her patients while they work towards improving function.
Dr. Brents is passionate about providing evidenced-based therapy intervention. She has received education on pediatric evaluation, tone management, torticollis, wheelchair seating/mobility, cerebral palsy, pediatric orthopedics, orthotics, aquatic therapy, massage/manual therapy, gait training, and treadmill training protocols. She received certification in the Universal Exercise Unit, LiteGait®, Interactive Metronome®, and is a Certified Pediatric Massage Therapist.
Dr. Brents completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Kentucky. She completed her clinical doctoral degree in 2010 after participating in specialized pediatric clinical training at Kids Center for Pediatric Therapies and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two young boys.
