Fishing Trip
Emily Melcher, Communications Manager
Fishing is a popular summer activity and one of our residents, Matt, has been waiting for months to go. Finally, the weather cooperated and he got his opportunity.
Our Resident Enrichment, Respiratory Therapy, and Occupational Therapy teams came together to take Matt on the long-awaited trip. He invited two friends from his neighborhood, Adelie and Jacob, to join him and they all had a blast! The group spent the day at a wheelchair accessible lake called Dittles Pay Lake. Our therapy team worked with Matt to create a pole holder that he could have on the footrest of his wheelchair and used the movement of reeling in the pole to work on his hand motion.
While Matt was working on his therapy goals, the other residents were enjoying themselves as well! Adelie was in heaven looking out over the lake and being outside while Jacob loved the bumpy bus ride and riding his wheelchair over the gravel near the lake, smiling and laughing the entire time! The fish were not biting on this particular trip, which Matt found disappointing, but that only means the group will be returning to the lake soon to enjoy some beautiful weather and hopefully reel in a few fish.
