Volunteering

People willing to fill a need.
When the Home of the Innocents was established in 1880, it met the needs of young and underprivileged children. Over the years, the Home has grown and expanded to meet the changing needs of children in crisis. Volunteers have been helping the Home since the beginning and with their kind service, help us maintain a high quality of care in all areas of serving children in need.

The Kosair Charities Pediatric Convalescent Center volunteers help in therapy, serve as classroom aides, are one-to-one childfriends, help at mealtime, conduct and participate in special activities. Childkind Center volunteers assist in general child care, serve as school aides, work with our pregnant and parenting teens, and help with special activities and outings. The Support Services volunteers help as clerical workers, mailing volunteers, holiday helpers, speakers bureau, etc.

On Being a Volunteer

Please remember, because we work with children who are in very sensitive situations, we are extraordinarily careful about selecting and training our volunteers.

* Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to assist in the Childkind Center.

* The minimum age for junior volunteers is 13 years old. Junior volunteers assist in the Kosair Charities Pediatric Convalescent Center.

* Group volunteers aid in specials events or assist with other miscellaneous projects at the Home.

* Youth groups may assist with special events or make arrangements to do a volunteer project in the Kosair Charities Pediatric Convalescent Center.
