H.O.S.T House serves teenagers in Henry, Oldham, Shelby and Trimble counties. H.O.S.T. is dually licensed as an emergency placement center as well as long-term residential treatment center. While residing at the House, youth are provided a safe, nurturing environment and help in resolving family, social and emotional problems through individual, group and family counseling.
The vision of H.O.S.T. House began in 1994. Jan Youngling and her husband, residents of LaGrange, fostered a young girl in need. While trying to find services for her in the Oldham County community, they discovered there were very few. Recognizing a need for services in her community and the surrounding areas, Jan decided to make a difference.
She contacted friends and individuals in the social services profession to brainstorm ways to help their youth. Numerous meetings were held to raise public awareness and to look at possible solutions. These passionate volunteers worked for months securing property, licenses and funding for the shelter. After years of hard work, they decided on an emergency shelter that primarily served the youth and families of Henry. Oldham, Shelby and Trimble counties, thus making the acronym of H.O.S.T.
On August 1, 1999, H.O.S.T. House entered into a new phase when it merged with Home of the Innocents. Both organizations shared a vision of helping youth in crisis and the merger allowed teens from the surrounding communities to stay in their own communities, learn to integrate into familiar surroundings and have a better chance of transitioning to adulthood.
